The hostel was set up using funds from the Mayor of Bury's Jubilee Trust and the Bury Ragged School's Trust. It was formally opened in 1984 and was extensively refurbished in 1996. The hostel is run by a voluntary management committee from Bury, Greater Manchester. The hostel itself is located near Glenridding, in the north-east Lake District. The hostel is available to all, but priority is given to groups from Bury. The hostel is let on a sole use basis for weekends, weeks, or even on a daily basis, but preference is given to weekly and weekend bookings. For current charges please look at Bookings
